LTEC5510 - Week 13 - Activity 4

Hello and Welcome back!

Our activity this week centered on evaluating the instructional design of the course, examining my own learning process, and considering my mindset as I approach completion.

Reflections Near the Finish Line: Bridging Hydraulics and Learning Technologies

As I approach the final stretch of my Master’s journey in Learning Technologies at UNT, I find myself reflecting not only on the academic milestones but also on how this experience has reshaped my approach to vocational instruction, especially in DEMR2335 Advanced Hydraulics.

This course has always been about more than pumps and pressure. It’s about systems thinking, troubleshooting under pressure (literally), and empowering students to see the invisible forces that drive mechanical motion. But now, with the lens of instructional design, I see hydraulics as a metaphor for learning itself: fluid, directional, and responsive to resistance.

From Technical Rigor to Instructional Clarity

LTEC5510 challenged me to rethink how I scaffold complex content. In DEMR2335, I’ve begun integrating:

• Interactive simulations to visualize flow paths and valve behavior

• Annotated schematics that model cognitive load reduction

• Responsive web modules that adapt to learners’ pace and device access

These aren’t just tech upgrades, they’re equity tools. They make hydraulics accessible to students who learn differently, who need more time, or who benefit from multimodal reinforcement.

Iteration, Feedback, and Flow

One of my biggest takeaways is the power of iterative design. Just as hydraulic systems rely on feedback loops to regulate flow, effective instruction thrives on formative feedback. I’ve started embedding micro-assessments and reflective prompts into my modules, helping students self-regulate and instructors adjust in real time.

Character, Grit, and Grace

Spiritually, this journey has deepened my appreciation for resilience. Hydraulics teaches us that pressure can be harnessed and not feared. Likewise, the pressure of deadlines, revisions, and academic rigor has refined my character. I’ve leaned on faith, community, and a sense of purpose to stay grounded.

Looking Ahead

As I am near the finish line, I’m not closing a chapter, I’m opening a new one. I’m excited to continue blending technical training with universal design, spiritual reflection, and learner-centered innovation. DEMR2335 will keep evolving, and so will I.

Until next time …
