LTEC5211 - Instructional Design II

PROMPT: What experiences would you like to gain or what information would you be interested in learning more about as a result of taking LTEC 5211? Be sure to list at least 3 specific things you'd like to learn about by the end of the semester.

Hello everyone, and Welcome to my blog!

My name is Gary Nagelhout. I am currently an MS Learning Technologies student at the University of North Texas and a full-time Community College Workforce Diesel Technology Instructor.

As an instructor I am comfortable working with Canvas as it has become our main Learning Management System (LMS). As a student and instructional designer, I am comfortable creating Canvas Modules that include the use of Multimedia resources such as PowerPoint, videos, eBooks, Manufacture specific content and Web sites. Cengage is one of the publishers that I have become most familiar with over the past several years.

A Workforce Instructors job is to prepare students to go to work immediately following the completion of either a Certificate or Associate degree program. Therefore, it is important to instruct students with the latest technology available to us.

Students learn best when multimedia is presented to them in the correct application. In today's industry, more companies and higher educational institutions are utilizing e-learning as one of the primary means for continuing education.

I am not familiar with "Articulate Storyline" or "Rise" as it would seem are two of the most common premiere tools used by instructional designers. Not to mention, they are also two of the most sought-after skillsets for instructional designer jobs. One of my goals with this course is to gain more knowledge with E-learning authoring tools.

A second goal is to learn more about using storyboards and animation. I would like to create a characterization that will become a modern-day Diesel Technician! I want to be able to create stories that can be used to present new technology to technicians in a way that they can relate to themselves. Almost like a technical friend that has all the answers to their day-to-day tasks. This can include safety implications and practices, the best shop cleanliness ideas, new tool introductions, etc.

My third goal is to learn more about using Gamification, Virtual Reality and Augmented Reality for instructional design applications. I would like to create new technology courses that can safely train students in a virtual environment. I believe that this can open more imaginations and present more job opportunities.
